• define group dynamics?The social practice in which people interact and behave in a group environment . It involved the influence of personality, power and behavior on the group process.
• 2 types of groups?


  formal groups which are structured to pursue a specific task. informal groups which emerge naturally in response to organizational or member interests
• Larger groups


  • Increase possibility of conflict due to the variety of view points
  • Have low opportunities for the development of social relationships
  • Decrease participation levels
  • Have lack of opportunity for individual recognition
• Stages of group development


  1. Forming/dependent stage

  2. Storming/conflict stage

  3. Norming

  4. Performing

  5. Adjourning/end
• Primary groups


  Small in size, persist long enough to develop strong emotional attachment between members, long-term, informal and hard to enter/exit
• Secondary groups


  Bigger in size, members are not bound by emotional ties, usually no face to face, formal in nature, easier to enter and exit and have limited demands
