Volcanoes are mountains formed by lava (molten rock) from below the Earth's crust being forced up through gaps in the plate boundaries.
A volcano is formed when there is a weakness in the earth's crust where magma can escape from the mantle forming a cone- shaped structure with a central vent or pipe.
At the top of a volcano there is a funnel-shaped depression or crater.
Molten rocks are known as magma
When magma reaches the earth's surface it is called lava.
