A projectile is an object upon which the only force acting is gravity. The components of a projectile are horizontal motion (x-axis) and vertical motion (y-axis).
Volleyball, basketball and javelin are called projectile because these objects are moving under the influence of gravity. The path followed by projectile is called trajectory. The trajectory the body performing projectile motion is a parabola.
The angle Ɵ, in degrees with respect to the horizontal is called angle of projection. The initial velocity imparted to the kicked football at this angle can be broken down into its vertical and horizontal component.
The horizontal component determines how fast the football is moving forward while the vertical component determines how fast the football is moving upward and later downward
