• mitosis - takes place in our body cells called SOMATIC CELLS. it is responsible for the increase in weight and height of someone as they develop. it is also responsible for the healing of wounds
• meiosis - the process of formation of gametes/sex cells / sperm cells / egg cell
• cell cycle - series of events that take place in a cell
• interphase

  • resting phase of the cycle
  • cell prepares for division by undergoing both cell grown and dna replication
  • occupies around 95% time of the overall cycle
• G1 PHASE

  • cell is metabolically active and continues to grow without replicating its dna
• S PHASE

  • resting phase
  • dna replication
• early prophase

  • cell starts to break down some structures and build others up
  • chromosomes start to condense
  • mitotic spindle begins to form
• mitotic spindle - structure made of microtubules
