  • Primary Sources
    Are first hand accounts, records, or evidence about a person, place, object, or event and uses fist person point of view.
  • Secondary Sources
    Are accounts, records, or evidence that comes from an original source or primary source and uses second person point of view. It shows how your work relates to existing research.
  • Outlining
    Is organizing written ideas in a logical order and has two types: sentence and topic outline
  • Sentence Outline
    Presents the thesis statement, major topics, subtopics, and supporting details in sentence form and allows you to include details in sentences. It follows a hierarchical structure composed of sentences and heading around the subject of the speech or essay.

  • Topic Outline
    Presents the major topics, subtopics, and supporting details in forms of words and phrases
  • Thesis Statement
    A one sided statement that expresses the main idea

    Formed from the thesis statement
  • Subtopics
    Formed from major topics
  • Supporting Details
    The additional information to prove the main idea

    1. Choose your topic and establish your purpose
    2. Create & organize a list of your major topics
