  • Beach nourishment - sand is pumped onto an existing beach
    Adv. - blends in with the existing beach, larger beaches appeal to tourists
    Disadv. Needs to be constantly replace, The sand has to be brought from else where.
  • Reprofiling - the sediment is redistributed from the lower part to the upper part of a beach
    Adv. - cheap and simple, reduces energy of waves
    Disadv. only works when energy is low, needs to be repeated a lot.
  • Dune regeneration - grass planted on sand dunes stabilises the dunes and helps to trap the sand to build them up
    Adv. relatively cheap, natural looking
    Disadv. - Can be damaged by storm waves, areas have to zoned off from the public, which is unpopular.
