rainforest

Cards (6)

  • why is rainforest soil nutrient poor??

soil leaching penetrates soil and transporting nutrients out of the soil with runoff.
  • climate in tropical rainforest
precipitation - high (wet and wetter season)
    temp. - warm/ hot
  • tropical rainforest spatial distribution
Tropical rainforests are mainly located the tropics, (the Tropic of Cancer 23.5˚N) and 23.5°S (the Tropic of Capricorn)
  • northern hemisphere continents and spatial distribution of rainforest
    Tropical rainforests are found in:
    Central and South America
    Western and central Africa
    Western India,
  • southern hemisphere continents spatial distribution of rainforests

Southeast Asia and south east asian islands, the island of New Guinea, and Australia
  • why is soil in the rainforest so nutrient poor? reference permeability.
The tropical rainforest has a lot of rain because of a few factors, location near the ocean, warm moist air.
The soils found in the rainforest are impermeable resulting in more run off and higher rate of evaporation as more precipitation occurs.
The runoff caused by impermaebility results in the runoff penetrating some of the soil and washing away the nutrients with the water.
