mother, any distance

Cards (4)

  • 'anchor. kite' - kite shows the freedom she is allowing for her child but still maintaining a sturdy grounded base for him to come back to as well as to stop him from flying away. single worded sentences slow poems pace which shows the speaker feeling thoughtful and reflective.
  • 'you at the zero end' - tape measure metaphor. she is at the start which is symbolic of his childhood where her memories of him will remain but as the tape measure stretches, they will gain physical distance. the limit of a tape measure however shows they will always have a connection.
  • 'to fall or fly' - imagery of a bird leaving a nest. he realises how far he could go in life but things may not go to plan.
  • 'breaking point where something has to give' - distance between them cannot be infinite, they never planned to fully let go of eachother but now they are realising they must to progress in life.serves as an indication to the son that his time to let go as arrived as she cannot move as she is at the start of the tape measure, so cannot move if not measurements would become incorrect.
