  Black: Telophase

• Describe a safe method to observe the stages of mitosis in root hair cells

  
  

  • wear satety gloves and goggles
  • cut the root tips and place in HCL acid and heat to soften tissue
  • stain the root tips
  • place root tips on the microscope slide and squash
  • use a high power microscope to observe the tissues cells in mitosis
• Determine if the differences between the mitosis indices are significant

  • repeat treatment and calculate the mean
  • keep the concentrations constant at all conditions
  • use the mean, the highest and lowest values to add SD
  • check for presence of overlaps in SD
