  • What is broadband?
    • A system that gives rise to rapid internet access through cables, optic fibres or satellites using electromagnetic waves with a range of frequencies.
    • The signals transmitted can be either analogue or digital.
    • These frequencies can be divided into separate bands, where each band carries a separate channel of data
  • Multiplexing
    • light is made of different wavelengths. Worked out how to use this to our advantage by sending different wavelengths of light down the same individual optical fibre
    • This is called ‘multiplexing’ and each wavelength carries data. This means more information can be carried through a single fibre = improved efficiency
