  • Hurricanes need these 3 things to form
    • Warm water over 26℃
    • Moist air
    • Wind speeds over 120 km/hr
  • How is a hurricane formed
    1.They form over warm ocean water near the equator
    2. When warm moist air rises upwards, it is replaced by new air
    3. This new air then becomes warm and rises
    4. This cycle continues
    5. The warm air rises and cools and condenses to form clouds
    6. The movement of the air creates wind
    7. A column of low pressure is formed and the wind blows around it
  • 8. Due to the spin of the Earth, this air and the clouds spin faster and faster
    9. The eye of the storm develops in the centre and it is calm
    10. Hurricanes occur mainly at sea and can be devastating when they travel inland
