Lenin had to come to terms with the fact that the world revolution would be post poned
The rest of the world had to come to terms with the fact that Bolshevism wouldn’t go away any time soon
People had acknowledged the isolation and that there had to be a way to co-exist
Britain had agreed to trade agreements in 1920, which effectively recognised Russia as a state and Lenin was particularly interested in trade agreements with Germany.
Chicherin, who was deputy commissar of foreign affairs, made a new approach and therefore led to the Treaty of Rapallo

Articles 4 & 5 dealt with ‘mutual goodwill’ in commercial and economic relations
