Plasma membranes have proteins and cholesterol embedded in them. The proteins can act as receptors. This means that the cell can respond to its external environment.
Mitochondria are oval-shaped, double-membrane organelles. Each membrane is a phospholipid bilayer embedded with proteins. The inner layer has folds called cristae. The area surrounded by the folds is called the mitochondrial matrix.
mitochondria:
Oval-shaped
Double membrane organelles
Have their own ribosomes and DNA
mitochondrion is the site of atp production
The nuclear envelope is a double-membrane structure. It has pores that control the passage of ions, molecules and RNA between the nucleoplasm and cytoplasm.
Processing and folding proteins takes place in the RER
Making and processing lipids takes place in the SER
