Eukaryotic Cells

Cards (7)

  • Plasma membranes have proteins and cholesterol embedded in them. The proteins can act as receptors. This means that the cell can respond to its external environment.
  • Mitochondria are oval-shaped, double-membrane organelles. Each membrane is a phospholipid bilayer embedded with proteins. The inner layer has folds called cristae. The area surrounded by the folds is called the mitochondrial matrix.
  • mitochondria:
    Oval-shaped
    Double membrane organelles
Have their own ribosomes and DNA
  • mitochondrion is the site of atp production
  • The nuclear envelope is a double-membrane structure. It has pores that control the passage of ions, molecules and RNA between the nucleoplasm and cytoplasm.
  • Processing and folding proteins takes place in the RER
  • Making and processing lipids takes place in the SER
