many TNCs are much richer than the entire countries in the less developed world - they can provide work and enrich the local economy OR exploit their workers with low pay and slowly destroy the environment
advantages of TNCs for nigeria:
companies provide employment and skill learning
more money is spent in the economy
investment in local infrastructure and education
valuable export revenues earned
other local companies benefit from increased orders
disadvantages of TNCs for nigeria:
local workers are poorly paid
working conditions are poor
management jobs go to foreign employees
much of the profit generated goes abroad
grants and subsides used to attract TNCs could've been used to invest in nigerian industry
unilever employs 1500 people in nigeria - they're aimed at growing the nigerian market and the development of brands to improve peoples QoL
unilever works with local communities/markets to develop new products and aims to achieve high standards of employment and environmental stewardship
oil exports provided £30.9 billion of government money but per person that equal £183 per year (their economy is not fair)
