Denunciation helps to reinforce the moral and ethical codes or boundary maintenance. These may have changed over time ro what is acceptable within society. For example, smoking cigarettes was once acceptable and even encouraged by the medical profession. Now it illegal in the workplace and in motor vehicles with child passengers.
