The court decides rules that the prisoner must face to avoid being sent to jail. These rules may need to be followed for up to three years. Following the rules will result in an absolute discharge.

Breaking the rules of a conditional discharge can result in being sentenced for the original offence plus the new offence. This will result in a criminal record
Unconditional (Absolute) Discharge
The defendant is technically guilty but punishment would be inappropriate - these are very rare.
The individual has been found guilty of an offence but they have a chance to reintegrate into society without a criminal record.
