  • ecotourism encourages sustainable tourism that creates jobs for local people whilst ensuring that the money generated is used to protect and conserve the tropical rainforest for future generations. Small scale tourism reduces litter in the TRF and avoids soil erosion as only a few tourists are show around at a time.
  •  debt for nature swaps are a way of reducing a countries financial debt in exchange for conserving the money and exchanging it to protect the ecosystems and environments such as the TRF.
  • agroforestry is tree planting that is deliberately combined with agriculture on the same piece of land. This can be used to control the amount of surface runoff and soil erosion - reducing the chances of water loss, soil material and preserve organic matter and nutrients. 
  • national parks use park rangers and guards to enforce the rules of the park and protect it against illegal activities like hunting, mining and deforestation. National parks have to be legally protected.
  • Reasons why the TRF is being deforested
    Large MNCs use the land to run cattle farms to sell beef to HICs.
    New land is needed for settlements with 25 million landless in Brazil.
    Wood extraction - Timber, mainly hardwoods, are taken for markets in HICs and is a valuable source of income in Brazil.
