Silver Nitrate Test - Non-metal Ion

Cards (4)

    • Some halide ions can be identified by a reaction with silver nitrate solution - if a sample of a hauled ion is dissolved into a solution and silver nitrate solution is added, a pre update will form.
  • Precipitate - solid which forms in a solution, turning different colour (white, cream, yellow).
  • Silver nitrate test precipitates:
    • Chlorine ions - white
    • Bromine ions - cream
    • Iodine ions - yellow
    • E.G. Potassium chloride + silver nitrate -> silver chloride + potassium nitrate
    • KCl (aq) + AgNO3 (aq) -> AgCl (s) + KNO3 (aq)
