• He sent a letter that asked Britain to send technical assistance to his modernizing effort of his country
• There was no response from Britain as opposed to what he expected which made him hopelessness.
• Then, the relation with British turned into conflict.
• He began to imprison European missionaries and British consuls found in Ethiopia.
• As repeated requests sent to release the prisoners failed, the British sent a military expedition led by Sir Robert Napier
• The army of Napier reached Maqdala in April 1868.
• On April 10, 1868, Tewodros's force was defeated at the Battle of Argohe
• On 13 April the British force stormed Maqdala but the Emperor committed suicide.
