Bills

Cards (1)

  • In one sentence, explain how a bill goes becomes a law/statute.
A bill goes through three readings: During the first reading it is introduced and named; the second reading it is defended and debated; the third reading it is less of a debate and more so a formality; then it is given royal assent (lieutenant governor if federal and governor general if provincial).
    • If the bill is federal, it must go through the process in the House of Commons and the Senate after the third reading.
    • If the bill is provincial, there is only one chamber it has to go through.
