  remains of an organism from many thousands of years ago which are found in rocks
• what do fossils provide evidence of?

  provide the evidence that organisms lived ages ago - tell us how much or how little organisms have evolved over time
• three ways fossils form in rocks:

  • from gradual replacement by minerals
  • from casts and impressions
  • amber stones
  • glaciers
  • peat bogs
• what is a peat bog?

  its where dead things are preserved with no oxygen or light so the microbes cant decay the organism
