    • Video for cinema releases and home video
    • Includes audio, animation and special effects
    • Evolved to include streaming services too
  • Television
    • Live and pre-recorded content for broadcast via aerials
    • It includes both factual and fictional content
    • Evolved to also be broadcast via satellites and streaming services
  • Radio
    • Includes live and pre-recorded audio (spoken word and music)
    • Still broadcast using AM and FM but is now available digitally (DAB) and can often be streamed on the internet
    • Content is often available as podcasts too
  • Print publishing
    • Production of factual and fictional written material
    • Can be presented in newspapers, magazines and books (it includes graphics too)
  • Computer Games
    Games may be designed for consoles, computers or portable devices like phones
  • Interactive Media
    • Systems which respond to choices input by users (e.g. touchscreen of a fast food ordering system or through the homescreen of a TV streaming service)
    • Other examples include interactive presentations with quizzes or links to other content, and information kiosks, like interactive maps in shopping centres
  • Internet
    • The creation and use of online content
    • This includes websites, social media, streaming services and messaging services
  • Digital publishing
    • Material designed to be viewed/listened to using digital devices such as tablets, computers, smartphones and eReaders
    • It includes blogs, podcasts and eBooks
  • Media product
    Something made by or used in the media industry
  • Video
    • Moving images, often with audio. It's used to create content for live broadcast, streaming or watching at home
    • Historically, video was stored on film and magnetic tape (VHS)
    • Nowadays, physical media used to store video includes hard drives and optical discs (DVDs)
  • Audio
    Recording of music, singing, spoken word and other sounds, popular audio products include podcasts and audiobooks
  • Music
    Recordings of instrumental and vocal sounds stored either in analogue format (e.g. magnetic tape or vinyl) or in digital (computer-based) format
  • Animation
    Illusion of movement from a series of still images including 2D hand-drawn animation, stop motion and 3D computer-generated films
  • Special effects
    Special effects are visual tricks used to create scenes or pieces of action that are difficult to do for real
  • VFX (visual effects)
    VFX (visual effects) are usually added during post-production editing e.g. placing actors in a fantasy world
  • SFX (special effects)
    SFX are often used in real life during fliming e.g. explosions or prosthetic makeup
  • Digital imaging and graphics
    Photographs can be edited digitally and original graphics can be created. Examples in everyday products include logos, branding, posters, food packaging and game covers
  • Digital games
    Games that are played on a digital device e.g. consoles, smartphones and laptop or desktop computers
  • Social media platforms / apps
    • Internet-based platforms that are designed for people to share information such as updates about their lives, opinions, photos and events with people from around the world
    • Examples include Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram
  • Comics and graphic novels
    • Stories told through drawn images, speech bubbles and text from every genre from horror to science fiction
    • Originally produced as paper products, many comic books and graphic novels are now available digitally
  • Websites
    • Set of related web pages stored on the internet. You can usually jump between them using hyperlinks
    • Created by professionals and amateurs, websits are available for any purpose on any topic
  • Multimedia
    Combines different content forms e.g. text, images, sound, video and animation. Examples include presentations, interactive games and information kiosks such as touch-screen ordering devices at restaurants
  • eBooks
    • Electronic versions of any printed newspaper, magazine or book
    • Bought or downloaded from the internet and read on eReaders, tablets and smartphones
  • Augmented reality (AR)

    Displays graphics and information over an image of the real world using either glasses or a device screen
  • Virtual reality (VR)

    Replaces our view of the world with a 3D representation through a headset that's able to track our movement
