    • Stage clip
    • Aperture
    • Iris Diaphragm
    • Condenser
    • Illuminator
    • Coarse adjustment knob
    • Fine adjustment knob
    • Stage controls
    • Base
    • Brightness adjustment
    • Light switch
  • Ocular lens
Magnifies the image produced by the objective lens so that it can be seen by our naked eyes
  • Diopter adjustment
Mechanical part to adjust the focus of the ocular lens to make it visible or adjust where your eyes would focus. Adjust lenses depending on your eyesight
  • Head
    Holds the ocular lenses
  • Arm
The carrying handle. One of the main supports of the microscope. Steady and stable and has stronger support. Supports both top and bottom of the microscope
  • Nosepiece
Holds together our objective lenses. Revolves or move around when want to change the objective lenses
  • Objective lenses
Have different lenses with different magnifications. Nearest lens to the specimen. Forms the first image of the specimen which is further magnified by the ocular lens
  • Mechanical stage
This is where you put your slide or specimen. Has stage clip and aperture
  • Stage clip
Allows specimen to be in place on the stage. Secures the slides which allows to move along the stage
  • Aperture
Hole that allows transmitted light to pass through the stage
  • Iris Diaphragm
Controls the amount of light that passes through the aperture. Mechanical part that you can adjust
  • Condenser
Found under the diaphragm. Collects the light and focuses it to enter to the diaphragm. Condenses light
  • Illuminator
    Light source
  • Coarse adjustment knob
Initial focusing knob. Allows the stage to move up and down
  • Fine adjustment knob

Precise control for the fine focus of the image
  • Stage controls
Moves the stage either left or right, backward, or forward
  • Base
One of the main supports of the microscope. Holds the microscope together with the arm
  • Brightness adjustment
Can adjust the light source brightness through this
  • Light switch

    Switch on/off the light source
  • Simple microscope

    • Consists of a single lens
  • Compound microscope
    • Consists multiple lenses because it has multiple objectives to obtain higher magnification
  • Objective lenses
    • Scanner objective (4x magnification)
    • Low power objectives (10x magnification)
    • High power objectives (40x magnification)
    • Oil immersion objectives (100x magnification, needs oil immersion)
  • Care for the microscope
    1. Carry the microscope supporting the two main parts, arm and base, of the microscope
    2. Hold in vertically
    3. Do not adjust the objectives holding the lenses itself, use the revolving nosepiece
    4. Only clean optical surfaces with good quality lens tissue and commercial lens cleaner
    5. Do not use 10x and 40x objectives with oil
    6. Clean the oil immersion lens after use
    7. Remove the slides with the LPO or scanner raised
    8. Storage position: lowered stage, scanner position, oculars at the bottom, wire unattached and coiled, rheostat turned to minimum, and switch it off. Oil or debris must be removed prior to storage. No slides should be on the stage. Cover when not in use
