  • Resurrection
Christianity teaches Jesus rose from the dead meaning through the power of God he overcame the power of death. It is symbolic of everlasting life that comes from God. Jesus shows that death can be overcome through the power of God
  • Resurrection of the flesh - Augustine

Augustine believed in the idea of original sin - if the resurrection of Christ offered hope and for the resurrection of humans, Augustine was sure this resurrection must have been physical. Augustine therefore argued that it is possible for God to to perform the same miracle on anything with a soul. This is the basis of the Catholic view
  • Spiritual resurrection
The idea of a physical resurrection for some does not make sense, the body would just rot away. They still believe in the resurrection but they believe that the soul instead of the body was resurrected. Backed by 1 Corinthians 'It is sown a physical body, it is raised a spiritual body'
  • A range in Christian views on resurrection
For Catholics, even though cremation is allowed, burial is recommended as the body in Christian art is depicted as the physical body being resurrected. Protestant churches are more likely to accept the idea of cremation, sometimes on the grounds that resurrection can be spiritual.
