  • Cell cycle is the birth, growth, reproductive, death of cell.
  • 2 main stages: interplase: 90% and division of cell: 10% mitosis and cytokinesis
  • Somatic cells are non reproductive cells that undergo mitosis.
  • Cells reproduce by mitosis to grow, repair, and replace.
  • Interphase: happens before mitosis. It is the period cell divsion where a cell grows, carries life functions, and prepares for division.
  • 3 detailed stages of interphase are G1: first growth- Carries functions, and prepares. S:synthesis-DNA REPLICATION. G2- second growth: grows, carries life functions and prepares.
  • Prophase: first stage of mitosis. DNA condenses, Chromatin forms chromosomes. Chromatin is a mixture of DNA and proteins forming chromosomes. Nuclear Membrane dissolves.
  • Metaphase is the second stage of mitosis where chromosomes line up at center. Spindle fibers attach to centromere of chromosome.
  • Anaphase is the third stage of mitosis where sister chromatids separate from each other. Centromeres split apart and spindle fibers pull them towards opposite poles.
  • Telophase is the fourth stage of mitosis where new nuclear membranes form around chromosomes. Chromosomes uncoil into chromatin again. Cytokinesis occurs when cytoplasm splits into two daughter cells.
  • Cytokinesis is the final step of mitosis where cytoplasm splits into two daughter cells.
