OBLA

Cards (4)

  • What is OBLA?
The point at which aerobic exercise becomes predominately anaerobic
    • 4 mmols of blood lactate indicates OBLA,anaerobic threshold ,lactate threshold
  • what’s the advantage of knowing when OBLA occurs?
-if you train at an intensity just below your anaerobic threshold then you maximise aerobic adaptations
-you can set accurate training intensities and targets
you are able to measure improvements over time
-OBLA occurs as a % of VO2 Max
  • What happens to the aerobic muscle cell after a period of aerobic trains ?
    -muscle hypertrophy
-the trained muscle is able to produce more energy aerobically
-it can delay OBLA meaning it can work aerobically for a longer period of time
    -increased buffering capacity
-through training OBLA occurs at a higher % of VO2 max
