  • How Canada Paid for the War
    • Canadian economy booming - supplying war effort and goods go to Europe, prices rise in Canada, wages stay the same, profiteers happy, workers unhappy
    • Rationing - limiting consumption of food and supplies so more are available for the soldiers
    • Victory bonds - patriotic savings bonds sold to public to pay for the war
    • Income Tax “temporary” tax on workers’ wages and money borrowed from other countries
  • Suffrage Movement
    • Important because it was for women's rights in the 1910-1920’s
    Suffrage: the right to vote in political elections - ties into the suffrage movement for women
    Suffragists: people who are peaceful while fighting for women's rights
    The conscription crisis helped women gain more power to vote
    • If the women was for conscription certain women would get to vote, that lead to more women wanting the vote
