  • What is an experienced place?

    A place that someone has spent time in , when someone visits or lives in a place their experiences such as things they see and people they meet shape their sense of that place.
  • What is a media place?

    Places someone hasn't been to but have created their own sense of place about it through its depiction in the media such as books or film.
  • What is a Near Place?
    • Somewhere that can be located geographically near to where someone lives.
    • people more likely to feel like insiders.
    • some will feel excluded due to their gender, age, sexuality etc.
  • What is a Far Place?
    • Far from somewhere a person might live.
    • might start to feel closer due to globalisation and rise of clone towns.
    • people more likely to feel like outsiders due to lack of experience, therefore less comfortable.
  • What is 'Placelessness'?

    how globalisation is making distant places look and feel the same due to monopoly of brands and store chains.
  • How Globalisation is affecting people's experience of geographical distance:
    • modern travel technology means that far places are quicker to get to -experienced more easily + frequently.
    • modern ICT- people more familiar with media places that they have no experience of.
    • close connections between people and activities in far places due to the internet.
