BECE MODULE 5

Cards (8)

  • Regulated Power Supply- to convert an unregulated alternating current ( to a steady direct current )
  • Regulated Power Supply- An electronic circuit, designed to provide the stable DC voltage of fixed value across load terminals irrespective of load variations
  • Linear Mode Power Supply (LPS)- unit containing these circuits
  • Regulated supply means the Voltage will stay constant irrespective of the load
  • Unregulated supplies tend to have higher outputs and are normally used with equipment that has its own internal regulation circuitry
  • Dual Supplies - because it is like two ordinary supplies
  • Basic Principle of Power Supply
Transformer steps down high voltage AC mains to low voltage AC
Rectifier converts AC to DC, but the DC output is varying
Smoothing smoothes the DC from varying greatly to small ripple
Regulator eliminates ripple by setting DC output to a fixed voltage
  • Single Diode Rectifier - It can be used as a rectifier, but this produces half wave varying DC
