AO3 - fMRI

Cards (7)

  • Unlike other techniques (e.g. PET scan) it does not rely on the use of radiation. (Risk-free and non-invasive and straightforward to use)

    Strength - FMRI
  • Produces images with a high spacial resolution, depicting detail by the millimetre, and providing a clear image of how brain activity is localised.
    Strength - fMRI
  • Expensive compared to other techniques.
    Limitation - fMRI
  • Poor temporal resolution. There is a 5 second time lag so it may not truly show moment to moment brain activity.

    Limitation - fMRI
  • Records specifc brain activity which can pinpoint specific responses and the exact source of brain activity.

    Strength - fMRI
  • Can detec t activity in deeper regions of the brain.
    Strength - fMRI
  • Ignores the networked nature of the brain.
    • Problem as it provides little insioght to how brain areas work together to function
    Limitation - fMRI
