  • Mineralocorticoids are a subclass of steroid hormones secreted by adrenal cortex to regulate fluid and electrolyte balance. The primary mineralocorticoid is aldosterone. The primary effect of it is to increase the passive reabsorption of sodium in the nephron, followed by the passive reabsorption of water, causing a net increase in blood volume.

Thus, the effect of the hypersecretion of mineralocorticoids is likely to be elevated blood volume and blood pressure.
