Parts of a Cell

Cards (16)

  • Ribosomes - help in the assembly of proteins and are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum
  • Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) forms a cisterna (network of interconnected sacs)
  • Rough ER - has ribosomes and produces protein
  • Smooth ER - has no ribosomes and produces lipids
  • Golgi Bodies - a complex structure of vesicles and folded membranes within the cytoplasm
  • Lysosome - "suicides bag" of the cell that has hydrolytic enzymes that break down waste products of cells
  • Indigested food - remains in the lysosomes
  • Hydrolytic Enzymes - proteins that use water to break down substances
  • Phagosomes - contain phagocytosed particle enclosed within a part of the cell membrane
  • Digested food - enters cytosol to begin oxidation
  • Mitochondrion - power house of the cell that produces ATP
  • Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) - complex organic compound that provides energy to the cell
  • Flagella and Cilia - appendages responsible for the locomotion of the cell
  • Flagellum - moves in a whip-like manner
  • Cilium - moves in power and recovery strokes
  • Axoneme - central core of the flagella and cilia
