Unit 4 OAS1

Cards (6)

  • Use of renewable feedstocks: reactions such as those that involve methane can be sourced from renewable sources such as plant-based materials (biogas) to ensure that there is not a dependence on increasingly scarce fossil fuels.
  • Catalyst: make the reaction occur at a fast rate to minimise wasted energy, and undesirable products.
  • Designing safer chemicals: during the production of these substances, the products should be treated with caution and care to minimise the effects of toxicity.
  • Proteins
    • 2-Amino acids
    • Polypeptide
    • Peptide Bond
    Carbohydrate
    • Monosaccharide
    • Polysaccharide
    • Ether link
    • Glycosidic Bond
    Lipids (Fats and Oils)
    • 1xGlycerol and 3xFatty Acids
    • Monosaturated
    • Polyunsaturated
    • Ester Bond
    • Change in temperature can affect the viscosity:
    • Increase temperature will:
    • Results in a decrease viscosity
    • More energy available to overcome these forces.
    • Allows substances to flow more readily.
    • Decrease temperature will:
    • Increase the viscosity
  • Adavantage of Atomic Economy:
A reaction with a high atomic economy is important in industry because it uses fewer natural resources, produces less waste, and is better for the environment. It is also cheaper to produce and more sustainable.
