It is a Marxist theory because everyone lives equally. It is based on an ideal human society which is what Marxists want.
What are the strengths of the Kibbutz?
Everyone lives equally and only has what they need.
The jobs that need to be done by the adults are done on rotation so that everything gets done and so that they are not stuck with the same job whether they like it or not.
It is a change from economic work for the men and women because they wanted to change the family life in the Kibbutz.
What are the weaknesses of the Kibbutz?
They wanted to get rid of the nuclear family to help the group.
They discouraged any intimacy between parents and children because they didn't want it to affect the members' energy from the Kibbutz project.
The children had to be looked after by a rotation of staff and could only be visited by their parents for a set time in the afternoon and this happened from the children being 6 month old to 18 years of age and they studied and slept in mixed dormitories.
