  • House share - two or more people living in an accommodation together and normally having their own bedroom and sharing facilities like the kitchen or bathroom.
  • The number of house shares is increasing especially among young people because the cost of housing prevents them from buying their own houses. Some people might buy a house but share it with friends to share all of the bills among them. Other people also buy a house together if they cannot afford to buy a house of their own.
  • The number of people that are forced to house share when they are in their 40s has increased because the rising prices have given renters no choice but to move in with friends or even strangers. Between 2009 and 2014, the number of house sharers that are 35-44 years old raised by 185% and the number of sharers that are 45-54 years old went up by 300%.
