auditory problems

    Cards (3)

    • conduction deafness
damage to the structure of the middle ear that conduct and amplify sound waves from outer to the inner ear
      -          people with this problem have high absolute thresholds for detection of sounds at all frequencies
      -          they frequently profit from hearing aids, which provide the amplification that the middle ear does not
    • sensory-neural deafness
stems from damage to the structures of the inner ear most often the loss of hair cells which will not regenerate
      -          also stems from damage to the auditory nerve thus tends people who suffer from this to be more sensitive to sounds of some pitches than others
    • stimulation deafness
stems from the exposure to very loud sounds
      -          the ringing sensation that develops after exposure to loud sounds indicates that hair cells might have been damaged
