What is a simple sentence?
A sentence with one independent clause.
What is a compound sentence?
A sentence that connects two independent clauses, typically with a coordinating conjunction like and or but.
What is a complex sentence? 
A sentence made up of a main clause and a subordinate clause connected to each other with a subordinating conjunction.
