“Nice? You heard them. It’ll never change… some thing never do”, Dolly said.
ane Harrison in her 2007 play “Rainbow’s End” explores the dark side of British colonialism in Australia during the 1950s.
It presents a world dominated by white people and racial discrimination through the lens of three Aboriginal women(Nan Dear, Gladys, and Dolly).
Harrsion reveals that the Aboriginal people face conscious stereotypes and prejudices from the whites, especially Dolly’s personal ambitions and the generational shift in hopes.
Harrison further argues the Indigenous people get implicit racism which is painful as explicit racism through their living under the control and inequality from the welfare government.
Moreover, the play showcases the loss of hopes of the older generation caused by discrimination which leads to obstacles for the next generation’s dreams .
