Strickland was a gentleman MP from Yorkshire, in April 1571 he sent out a bill to reform the Book of Common Prayer by abolishing surplices, marriage rings, communion kneeling and other ‘superstitious’ practices
There was some support for the bill in the house, but not from higher authority; he was summoned by the Privy Council to answer accusations that he had infringed on the Queens prerogative as Supreme Governor
He was barred from the House, but allowed to return after an outcry from MPs, but his bill was not heard of again
