    • nature refers to the argument by sociobiologists that we genetically inherit all of our behavioural traits through our genes/DNA.
    • sociobiologists argue that the characteristics of the human race as a whole are the product of evolution and that individual differences are due to each persons unique genetic code.
    • nurture refers to the view that humans aquire all of their behavioural traits from the environment; i.e. that behaviour is LEARNT.
    • philosopher John Locke proposed thag idea that humans develop from only environmental influences.
    • according to the nurture argument, everything that we are and all of our knowledge is determined by our experiences. therefore, behavioural differences that emerge through infancy and childhood are the result of learning and experience, NOT biology.
