Explain Functionalism
Functionalists including Durkheim and Parsons argue that education promotes the norms and values of society as a whole. Every part of society contributes to maintaining the whole, eg family, education criminal justice system, media etc.
Explain Marxism
Marxists claim that education only promotes the values of powerful groups.
