  • What are special senses?
    Smell, Taste, Sight, Hearing
  • Palpebral Fissure - the space between the eyelids in an open eye
  • Medial and Lateral Commissure - corners of the eye
  • Eyelashes - projecting from the border of each eyelid
  • Tarsal Glands - modified sebaceous glands, that produce an oily secretion that lubricates the eye
  • Ciliary Glands - modified sweat glands, lie between the eyelashes
  • Conjunctiva - a delicate membrane, lines the eyelids and covers part of the outer surface of the eyeball
  • Conjunctiva - secretes mucus, which helps to lubricate the eyeball and keep it moist
  • Lacrimal Glands - they continually release a dilute salt solution onto the anterior surface of the eyeball
  • Tears - dilute salt solution
  • The tears flush across the eyeball into the lacrimal canaliculi medially, then into the lacrimal sac, and finally into the nasolacrimal duct, which empties into the nasal cavity.
