If carbon dioxide came upon contact with water inside the body, by the help of an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase, it will form carbonic acid.
Carbonic acid is an unstable molecule, it wouldn’t last long, it would disintegrate in either back to being a carbon dioxide and water or turn into a bicarbonate and hydrogen ions.
Hydrogen ions increase or decrease the pH level.
As carbon dioxide increases, hydrogen ion also increases.
Accumulation of carbon dioxide inside the body results in the addition of hydrogen ions which increases the body’s pH level making it acidic.
Normal pH level of the body is 7.35-7.45.
The normal partial pressure of carbon dioxide in blood is 35-45 mmHg.
