  Security council issues Resolution 660

  • Demanding Iraq's immediate withdrawal

  (More Resolutions issued in next few months including trade sanctions - embargoes on purpose of Iraqi oil + sale of arms to Iraq
• 29 November 1990:


  Resolution 678 passed, stating member states are allowed to attack Iraq if it does not withdraw from Kuwait by 15 January 1991.

  • Iraq did not withdraw - led to Operation Dessert Storm
