• They managed to occupy small areas of German trenches but nowhere near their objective.
• The French took 250000 prisoners + 3000 more
• They took pressure off the French at Verdun where they later went on to beat the Germans.
• They did learn valueable lessons of fighting (better trained soldiers, better plans and no more waves of attacks and improved artillery).
• Pushed German frontlines back 10 miles.
