Shown to LVF only. Participant reports he saw nothing or saw a flat of light on left.
Picture of a pretty woman (a 'pinup') to LVF. Participant giggles but says he saw nothing. shows emotional response from RH.
2. Visual material shown to RVF only: Participant can describe visual material in speech and writing as normal (RVF linked to LH and right hand)
3. Visual and tactile task:
If an object is placed in the left hand participants can only make will guesses and may seem unaware that they are holding anything.
4. Dual processing tactile task:
Participant's right (or left) hand selects object presented to it, but each hand ignores the other hand's objects.
5. Everyday life:
Participants continue to watch TV or read books with no complaints; intellect and personality are unchanged. However, they have short-term memory deficits and difficulties with concentration.
CONCLUSION: Functions are lateralised in the brain.
The right hemisphere is 'silent' as it cannot respond verbally. It can respond with some emotion (ie giggling)
