Competition

• From the 1920s, GB faced much increasing comp from abroad. Competitors were bigger and could produce goods with a much lower price
• Much of the GB industry in the early C20th developed around the coalfields of the north cause they depended on steam power, which the coalfields could provide
• The main problem affected the old industries was that they depended on exports. They were only profitable if they could sell to world-wide markets
