When naming an ionic compound, the metal always comes first and the name of the non-metal second:

Potassium + iodine - potassium iodine
Sodium + hydrogen + oxygen - sodium hydroxide
Zinc + carbon + oxygen - zinc carbonate
Potassium + chlorine + oxygen - potassium chlorate
Sodium + phosphate + oxygen - sodium phosphate
