  • Driving without insurance is not allowed in the UAE. At least third-party insurance is mandatory. When you get a license it is your responsibility to check if the vehicle you are driving is insured or not.
  • Currently, there are two common insurances:
    1. comprehensive insurance
    2. third party insurance
  • Comprehensive insurance (full insurance): At the time of accident, if your vehicle is comprehensively insured, the insurance company pays the costs and repairs of both vehicles.
  • Third-party insurance(half insurance): this means at the time of the accident, the insurance company pays the costs and repairs of the other vehicle but not yours.
  • Some conditions when you lose the insurance coverage:
    1. drive without a UAE or international driving license
    2. drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs
    3. jump the red light (subject to insurance policy)
    4. overload the vehicle
    5. unauthorised modification of the vehicle
  • What happens when you drive a car without insurance?
    You have to bear the costs of repairs and compensation
  • When will you lose the insurance coverage?
    • When you are under the influence of alcohol and drugs
    • when jumping the red signal
    • when giving the car to someone who is not licensed to drive in the UAE
