Light

• The light ray going towards the surface is called the incident ray.
• The light ray going away from the surface is called the reflected ray.
• The perpendicular line to the surface at the point of incidence is called the normal
• The angle between the incident ray and the normal is called the angle of incidence while the angle between the reflected ray and the normal is called the angle of reflection.
• The first law of reflection states that the incident ray, the reflected ray, and the normal at the point of incidence lies in the same place.
• The second law of reflection states that the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection.
• There are either regular reflection on smooth surfaces or diffuse reflection on rough surfaces.
• The image of a point object in a plane mirror is always as far behind the mirror as the object is infront of the mirror.
• A virtual image is an image not formed on the screen or is not formed by the intersection of light.
• Mirror images are virtual, same size as object, laterally inverted and upright.
